24 Feb Airo Security Reports: A.K. ‘Sandy’ McDonald, 96, retired conductor with CSX Trans
A.K. “Sandy” McDonald, 96, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020. Sandy was born March 21, 1923, in Charlotte, the son of the Late Allie and Rosie O’Brien McDonald.
Sandy attended Louisburg College and Catawba College. He retired as a conductor for CSX Transportation. Sandy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a cruiser in the South Pacific. Sandy was a member of the USS San Francisco Association, as well as the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution and the Transportation Union. Sandy was loved and adored and will be missed by many.
Sandy is survived by two sons, Charles Kelly, and his wife, Tracy, and Michael O’Brien, both of Jacksonville Florida; four grandchildren, Brian, Melissa, Jennifer and Rebecca, all of Jacksonville, as well as two great-grandchildren, Sofia and Callie Valdelamar.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, Feb. 24, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow services in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington.
